What is the Living Blanket?

The Living Blanket is a creative collaboration composed of self-portraits displayed on fabric by women from around the world. These self-portraits are sewn together showing identities and experiences, generating an exchange of dialogue, and analysis of the state of our societies around the globe. The living blanket will circulate and continue to grow endlessly among human communities and serve as a vehicle for a message of peace. Each self-portrait on fabric is scanned and displayed on the website

The Living Blanket shows women in action working for peace and for the planet. The purpose of the Living Blanket is to make together. We must learn to think beyond our own individual existence and live together as world citizens living on one planet.

Today, the situation in which we are living is without precedent. Not only is our species threatened, but so are all forms of life on the planet. It is without question that we cannot continue in the same direction we have been going. If we desire something other than the

commodification of vital elements, and the endemic impoverishment of the majority of humans, we must take action. We must consider what is important in our lives. We are at a stage where there is a need for new models in all fields human activity. We must take control of our own destiny, how we live together, how we feed ourselves, how we farm, how we govern, and how we envision ourselves in global society.
